5 more holiday events to usher in Christmas in Northern California

Music is a time honored part of Christmas, and there are many performances to choose from in Northern California.

There are so many different holiday events taking place throughout December that it's difficult to select just a few to attend. We've covered a wide variety of events to attend leading up to Christmas already in the Sacramento-area, but here are a few more holiday-themed activities that residents of Northern California can enjoy this year.

Riders in the Sky: Christmas the Cowboy Way – The City Winery in Napa will be hosting Riders in the Sky's tribute to cowboys and western music this year with "Christmas the Cowboy Way."  This event will feature a humorous take on cowboy culture with songs like "Riding Home On Christmas Eve," "Deck The Bunkhouse Walls" and "The Last Christmas Medley You'll Ever Need To Hear" on December 16. Tickets are $25-$35. Riders in the Sky formed over 30 years ago, and the only exclusively Western music artist to join the Grand Ole Opry. The group has always won a Grammy award for their performance of Woody's Round Up" in "Toy Story 2."

San Francisco Symphony: Handel's Messiah & A Charlie Brown Christmas - A quick drive down to San Francisco to see the San Francisco Symphony will be very rewarding this year with two different performances. On December 18, visitors can see the symphony perform Handel's Messiah with conductor Jane Glover. On December 19, the symphony will be performing the family favorite "A Charlie Brown Christmas" with conductor Randall Craig Fleischer.

Sacramento Master Singers: A Celtic Christmas – On December 14, Sacramento's premier choral chamber group the Sacramento Master Singers will present "A Celtic Christmas" at the Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake in Folsom, California. Tickets are $25-$55.

Sacramento Master Singers: Jingle All the Way! - For a more traditional Christmas carol event, the Sacramento Master Singers will present "Jingle All The Way!" on December 21 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sacramento. Tickets are $5, $3 for children.

Wintersongs by Sing Napa Valley – Also on December 21, Artistic Director Jan Lanterman will lead Sing Napa Valley through a program of traditional Christmas tunes at the City Winery in Napa.

These events are just some of the amazing things to do in Northern California, not to mention the numerous parades, festivals and other events in Sacramento itself. California is a magical place to be in winter, whether it snows or not.
