Riverfront venue will make Bridge District major hotspot

The Barn Project will be built along the Sacramento River, in the Bridge District.

The West Sacramento City Council has agreed to pitch in $2.6 million of public funds to help build the much-anticipated riverfront Barn Project, according to local TV affiliate CBS Sacramento. The outdoor, multi-use venue is set to go up along the Sacramento River in the Bridge District. The project will include space for concerts, a farmers market, community and private events and even a beer garden. Its total cost is expected to be $5.6 million.

Community leaders are planning construction of new homes and businesses in the area. Government officials say they approved contributing funds to the Barn Project because it will be good for the city, bringing in new tax revenue. They say it will encourage further development, giving the local economy and property values a significant boost. It might also help attract new residents from elsewhere in California and even out-of-state.

"We're ready now for a hot start," West Sacramento Mayor Pro Tem Mark Johannessen recently told local news station FOX 40. "We're looking at this facility as a place where people can coalesce as we start to build out the river front."

The venue will be constructed at Garden and Riverfront streets, near Raley Field, home to the minor league baseball team the River Cats.
