Orchestra performances through 2015 bring music to the River City

Sacramento philharmonic may be on hiatus, but there are other orchestras to attend this season.

The Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the best in the country, and it has elected a new president of the board to usher in the new year. Laurie E. Nelson will be taking over the orchestra, and revealed that she hopes to launch a partial season in early 2015 for the philharmonic and opera.

The philharmonic took a haitus this year, for the first time in 17 years, and the music torch was carried by the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra for the time being.

"We're so sorry we don't have the Opera or Philharmonic this fall," Donald Kendrick, director and conductor of the SCSO, told the Sacramento Bee in September. "We need them in this city."

With the hope that the joint Sacramento Region Performing Arts Alliance – made up of the Philharmonic and its sister opera – will relaunch its concert series in 2015, music lovers throughout the Sacramento area can catch the latter half of the SCSO's 19th season, with concerts coming up on December 13, March 14 and May 9.

Alternatively, the Camellia Symphony Orchestra is in its 52 season, performing such classical pieces as Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 'Eroica,' Bruckner's Symphony No. 4 'Romantic' and Schumann's Symphony No. 1 'Spring.' The CSO will be performing on February 7 and April 25 at the Sacramento City College of Performing Arts, as well as a free family concert at the Sacramento Central Library on March 15. The CSO is made up primarily of local musicians.

These are just a few of the delightful musical performances that Sacramento has to offer.
