5 unusual Sacramento events for November

Sacramento is home to a wide variety of festivals and events from art shows to concerts.

Sacramento is full of rich history and culture from both ends of the spectrum, and while there are many museums, art festivals and similar events to attend, there are also many "off-the-wall" festivals that come to the city every year. From graffiti to snowboard, these events can be great fun for college students, young professionals and anyone else interested in some of the more unusual aspects of life.

Here are a few of the festivals hosted in Sacramento this November:

Ex-Vandals Graffiti Art Show – Bring the east and west coasts together, the Ex-Vandals Graffiti Art Show features the work of "Stan153" and "Cuba," two internationally recognized graffiti artists. Hosted by the Sol Collective, all proceeds from the event will go toward the organizations regular programs. The show opens November 8, with exhibits remaining through the 30.

Firefighters Burn Institute 1st Alarm Chili Cook-Off – The Sacramento Firefighters Burn Institute's annual 1st Alarm Chili Cook-Off celebrates the culinary skill of Sacramento's residents, with judging performed by attendees. The event is hosted at the California Automobile Museum, with proceeds going toward the the important work that the Burn Institute does. The event will include a beer and wine tasting, dessert, live music, raffle and silent auction.

PLACAS: The Most Dangerous Tattoo – Hosted by the San Francisco International Arts Festival, Placas is the story of a ex-gang member recently released from prison seeking redemption. Part of the terms of his parole are that he must remove any gang-affiliated tattoos, going through both a physical and emotional change over the course of the play. The show is loosely based on the story of Alex Sanchez, an ex-gang member who founded the non-profit group Homies Unidos.

SnowBomb Sacramento Ski & Snowboard Festival - The SnowBomb Ski and Snowboard Fesitval comes to Sacramento on November 15-16, including entertainment, vendors, beer and wine tastings and a chance to win lift tickets to participating resorts. Many of the vendors are offering their wares for up to 75 percent off, with millions of dollars in retail goods sold at the festival each year. A must visit for snow sports enthusiasts.

Winter Jam 2014 – For the musically inclined there's Jam Nation's Winter Jam 2014, a celebration of Christian music. This year's artists include Hillsong United, Colton Dixon, Disciple, Newsong, Veridia and more. Hosted at the Sleep Train Arena on November 9, the music festival is sponsored by Holt International and other local companies and Christian groups.
