On list of cities with seasonal allergies, Sacramento ranks as one of least problematic

Do you have allergies? Consider moving to Sacramento.

A new report from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of American (AAFA) named Sacramento as one of the least problematic places for allergy sufferers, out of a list of 100 metropolitan areas in the United States.

The AAFA list ranked 100 American cities from worst to best, with a ranking of one being the least healthy for those with allergies.Researchers compiled their list by considering factors such as pollen counts, allergy medication use and access to Board Certified allergy specialists. Sacramento came in 88th, making it one of the least troublesome places on the list for those who have allergies. In 2013, it was 94th on the list.

A recent check of Sacramento's pollen forecasts on Weather.com shows no anticipated tree or grass pollen activity, and low weed pollen activity. Other California cities, such as Redding, will have high tree and grass pollen numbers through at least Wednesday, the site reports. Redding is about 160 miles north of Sacramento.

Louisville, Kentucky, was named the worst city in the U.S. for those who have seasonal allergies. Memphis, Tennessee, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Jackson, Mississippi rounded out the top five.

Not all California cities fared as well as Sacramento. Los Angeles jumped from 77th on last year's list to 38th in the most recent rankings. Fresno was 54th.
