As a passionate golf fan, I absolutely love living in Northern California. We have some of the most beautiful courses in the world right in our own backyard, and it's always fun to watch the careers of young up-and-coming golfers in our area!
One of the ones to watch right now is undeniably Sacramento County's Paige Lee. Paige is from Folsom and is currently a freshman at University of California, Davis. An All-Big West first-team selection, Lee finished third in sectional qualifying on Monday, June 2, with a two-round total of eight-over-par 150. That means she will head to the Women's U.S. Open next month in North Carolina. The tournament is scheduled to begin June 19 at the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club.
UC Davis head coach Anna Temple praised Paige in a university news release, saying the young golfer's experience at last summer's U.S. Women's Amateur tournament helped her grow.
"Paige has been working hard and has really improved over several categories over the past season and she is starting to see that pay off now," Temple said. "Another month of really good work will lead to some great things for her the third week of June. This is a testament to the level of Aggie golf as she is the third UC Davis player to qualify."
We wish all the best to Paige and the other California golfers competing in the tournament, including sixth grader Lucy Li. (At just 11, Li is the youngest player to ever qualify!)
