Placer County is the second-healthiest county in all of California, according to an annual report from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps. In the recently released 2014 rankings, researchers deemed Marin and Placer Counties the two healthiest out of 57 counties in California. (Alpine County was not ranked.)
Placer County Health Officer Dr. Robert Oldham congratulated residents in an online statement.
"Our high ranking reflects years of hard work and healthy choices by the people of Placer County and our leaders, our businesses, our community and faith-based organizations and our very dedicated professionals in public health and health care delivery," Oldham said.
Placer County was listed second in the state in terms of both "health outcomes" and "health factors." To determine health outcomes, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps assessed length of life and quality of life among residents. To rank counties in terms of health factors, analysts examined variables like smoking rates, access to healthy food, air quality, high school graduation rates and obesity.
According to a County Health Rankings & Roadmaps press release, people living in the nation's least healthy counties are twice as likely to have shorter lives as those living in the healthiest counties. Other top California counties in the 2014 rankings include Santa Clara, San Mateo and Yolo counties.
